Reading

We have had lots of fun reading chapter books this winter.
One of our favorites has been Little House in the Big Woods .

They have a chapter on maple syrup harvesting and so when our local nature center did their tapping this past Sunday we had to go and check it out.
Lauren is helping the naturalist drill and 2 inch deep hole into the sugar maple.

Then she helped tap in the spile into the tree.

And then we hung the bag on.
At the River Bend Nature Center they need around 43 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup.

And tried some syrup from 2 years ago. Last year was not a good year for Maple syrup.

And then we did a little exploring at the turtle pond-no turtles yet:)

And had to do some puddle splashing!
